The Taubman Museum of Art is part of the lively metro mountain mix of arts, culture, and outdoor fun in the heart of downtown Roanoke, Virginia. The museum offers eleven galleries as part of the Fralin Center for American Art and originates 15-20 exhibitions per year. Featured artists have ranged from Kehinde Wiley to John James Audubon and from Sally Mann to Norman Rockwell. The museum also is home to collections featuring the work of artists such as Thomas Cowperthwaite Eakins, John Singer Sargent, Purvis Young, Petah Coyne, and John Cage.

The Problem

The museum had a dated website design that did not showcase the full range of exhibitions, collections, and events available. They wanted a modern, fun design that featured movement, worked great on phones, and provided a way to manage a variety of event types with an archive. Additionally, the museum wanted a design that was highly accessible to people with all types of abilities.

The Solution

A new website launched with a high color, high visual design that brings in elements of the building’s architecture while working lightning fast on all devices. Every part of the website is connected to a robust calendaring system that allows museum staff to add new exhibitions and events, while making everything easy to find and navigate.

Thanks to a Google Ads grant, year-round search advertising promotion was implemented to ensure that key traffic segments were able to find the site and museum offerings with ease.

How We Got There

Starting with a discovery meeting with the museum team, LeadPoint developed a plan for the new site. A collaborative design process ensured that the look and feel of the website mirrored an in-person experience. Simultaneously, we worked with the museum as it interviewed different community groups to help determine what types of accessible features would be needed for the website.

The Results

Oh. My. Gosh. It’s a thing of beauty! We are absolutely over the moon with the new website! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Your effort pushed this over the finish line. You did all the heavy lifting. What a monumental effort and a monumental new face to the world!
